Home Groups
Mount Pleasant Christian Church is firmly committed to be a "church of small groups." As we continue to grow larger, we must also continue to grow smaller. This necessity stems from the need to provide opportunities for connection for all people who walk through the doors of the church. One of our methods for achieving this goal is what is known as a "home group." It is probably quite obvious as to what a home group is, but if not--a home group is a small number of people committed to meeting together regularly and providing opportunities for spiritual growth in four key areas which will be explained below. Mount Pleasant home groups are at the core of what we do in seeking to be a "church of small groups." It is our desire to connect all people who wish to be connected to some manifestation of a small group, for it is only by growing smaller that we can fully serve one another as God desires.
Our Mount Pleasant home groups are committed to four areas of emphasis (based on Acts 2:42), which have a corresponding "s" word connected to them. They are as follows: SEEK, SHARE, SERVE, STUDY.
At every home group meeting, you are sure to experience a time of prayer. It is through prayer that we actively SEEK the face of God with our concerns, worries, struggles and praises. Growth occurs when we can begin seeking God for the well-being of others in our group, and prayer is one way unity occurs in any small group.
The SHARE component of every home group means that each and every person within the group will be committed to sharing life together--their sorrows, their joys, their failures and their successes. By committing to sharing life together, each home group builds a community of God's people all committed to the same goal.
As Mount Pleasant continues to be externally-focused, it is our home groups who have the greatest potential for reaching out to the communities around them. Each home group will SERVE together in various ways in order to actively be engaged in the work of God. Service also involves serving one another within the group as needs arise, for it is God's people who should be caring for one another.
Mount Pleasant is actively committed to studying and growing through the scriptures. Each home group will be committed to the STUDY of God's word as a collective of people learning and growing together.
As a church seeking to change the world one life, one family, one opportunity at a time, we have made being a “church of small groups” part of our vision to reach the community around us. In a church our size, it becomes increasingly difficult to develop deep and meaningful relationships just on a Sunday morning or Saturday night. We are a large congregation, but as we grow larger, we also are growing smaller. No matter how large we grow, you’ll always be connected to community as you become involved with a group of people desiring to grow in faith and friendships.
